You think it’s too much credit? Well, you should know that the Mazda3 has won awards after awards worldwide, mainly due to its pleasant driving dynamics, sporty.
As soon as I sat at the wheel of my tester, I conquered. As most people know, the 3 shows a little Mazda “Zoom-Zoom” personality, which fits well with the car.
A compact response
The GS sedan (mid-range model) is motivated by a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed autobox with Sport mode. In terms of performance, the 2.0-liter engine / manual transmission combo proves to be sensible and predictable. As expected, takeoffs are less explosive than with sportier models powered by the 2.3-liter mill. Similarly, passing maneuvers are not particularly fast, unless you are willing to push the car to the limit. Therefore, the true driving enthusiast is not likely to opt for the Mazda3 GS.
On the plus side, steering allows nimble handling while making it easy to maintain the desired path. The suspension is obviously a bit firm, due to its sporty character of the mark, but still manages to enjoy most road imperfections. However, I found a bit disappointing in some sharp corners, where body roll is noticeable. But as for daily driving is concerned, the small sedan unaffected.
As for the brakes, which are quite effective. The pedal sends the driver inputs to the tweezers with a precision and responsiveness.
